George Groves won the European super-middleweight title at the Wembley Arena in London on Saturday night.
The 26-year-old clinched the contest against Christopher Rebrasse of France by a unanimous decision and earned the right to face WBC champion Anthony Dirrell.
There were two Arsenal players who had gone to watch the fight – Mesut Ozil and Luke Podolski – and they seemed delighted with the English boxer’s victory.
Ozil and Podolski themselves were involved in competitive action on Saturday, as they were part of the Arsenal team that defeated Aston Villa 3-0 at Villa Park in the Premier League.
While Podolski came on as a second-half substitute in the match, his compatriot Ozil played the entire 90 minutes and was the star of the show.
The Germany international playmaker scored one goal and provided the assist for another, as he returned to form in style (click here to read more).
Next up for Arsenal is a clash against Southampton in the third round of the League Cup on Tuesday.
