Liverpool star laughs at Manchester United on Twitter

Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli appeared to revel in Manchester United's 5-3 defeat to Leicester City on Sunday.

Manchester United’s 5-3 defeat to Leicester City was seen by millions of people around the world, and for every United fan depressed by the unbelievable outcome, and every Leicester fan elated by it, there are plenty of neutrals who will have watched the Red Devils’ capitulation with a wry smile.

One such person appears to have been Liverpool front-man Mario Balotelli, who tweeted during Louis van Gaal’s side’s humiliation.

‘Man Utd…LOL,’ the Italian international wrote, no doubt echoing the thoughts of many Liverpool fans across the world.

It is a debate for another day as to just how professional it is for a player to tweet such obvious appreciation for a rival’s downfall. But football is about passion, tribalism and revelling in your victories and the defeats of your foes.

And Balotelli did just that on Saturday, although he will soon be turning his attentions back to helping Liverpool reverse their own disappointing form.
