On Friday Louis van Gaal beamed during his press conference as he announced some good injury news. He was pleased to confirm that Chris Smalling was back from his fitness woes and that he would soon be back to full reserves in the centre-back department.
And then he had to watch on despondently as yet another of his options limped out of action during the game with Leicester City this afternoon.
Phil Jones is still suffering with a hamstring problem picked up on international duty with England and the club of course allowed Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand leave on free transfers at the end of their contracts.
So when Jonny Evans limped out of proceedings it was yet another fly in Louis van Gaal's ointment.
It looked rather innocuous at the time, but United swiftly took him off the pitch and he was then seen wearing a protective boot on the sidelines, suggesting that the injury is certainly serious enough to keep him out of action for a a significant amount of time.
To add insult to injury they went on to lose the game 5-3, despite being 3-1 up at one point in the second half.
