It's fair to say that Mesut Ozil's time at Arsenal hasn't quite been as smooth as the German international would have anticipated before making his £42.5m deadline day move to North London from Real Madrid back in September 2013. A star of the 2010 World Cup, Real forked out €15m to sign Ozil from Werder Bremen, and he went on to make over 150 appearance for the Spanish giants, scoring 27 goals before his move to the Emirates Stadium.
However, his first season in England was rife with poor displays and subsequent criticism, and that hasn't subsided in recent months after a poor 2014 World Cup in Brazil and an awful start to the Premier League season, which has seen Ozil pushed out to the left hand side.
Yet on Saturday, Ozil was more like himself as he notched Arsenal's first goal in their away game at Aston Villa, as well as grabbing an assist in an impressive display from the attacking midfielder. With Arsenal fans now praying that Ozil returns to his best form, the German took to Instagram to thanks his fans for their continued support.
"I appreciate the support from all my fans," said Ozil on Instagram, and now much more will be expected of him after bouncing back in style against Villa this weekend - and Arsenal will need more of the same if they are to mount a sustained title challenge this season.
