Sean Dyche took Burnley up from the Championship last season against the odds, and now he's trying to keep the Clarets in the top flight. The prolific partnership of Danny Ings and Sam Vokes took Burnley up automatically, but both were missing through injury against Sunderland today as Dyche's men once again drew a blank.
Scott Arfield's goal against Chelsea in their first game of the season remains the only goal scored by Burnley this season, and that seems like a long time ago now - yet they have still only lost once since then, with three goalless draws in a row against Manchester United, Crystal Palace and now Sunderland following a 1-0 loss to Swansea.
Today's game saw Gus Poyet's Sunderland looking for a win after rescuing a late draw against Tottenham last weekend, but the Black Cats couldn't break down a determined Burnley defence, who kept their third clean sheet in a row - which is at least a boost for Dyche given how promoted teams tend to struggle keeping goals out, despite Patrick van Aanholt's late chance for Sunderland.
