Sony Pictures Animation gives a look at animated Popeye movie

Sony Pictures Animation Popeye animation test screen 1

Director Genndy Tartakovsky says it's not a clip from the movie, but it shows what they want to do with it.

Sony Pictures Animation has revealed some details and a sneak peek at what they're wanting to achieve with the new animated Popeye movie they're working on.

The director of the movie, Genndy Tartakovsky (Hotel Transylvania), talks about his love of the character and his experience with the cartoons growing up in America. He says that the animated test which is revealed in the video below is 'not a clip, it's not a trailer, it's nothing from the actual movie, the voices are all temp - it's just something that kind of represents what we want to do'.

Keeping to a more movement and physical humour-based concept the test footage certainly showcases what the studio wants to achieve. The animation looks crisp and polished, and we certainly wouldn't mind if this did represent the direction their going in with the look of the movie due in 2016. Also, keep an eye on Eugene the Jeep!
