Match to be played on Saturday 20th September 2014 at 15:00. Venue: Turf Moor, Burnley.
Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has a virtually fully fit squad of players to choose from as his side head to Burnley this weekend looking to back up a point against Tottenham Hotspur.
A win for Sunderland could take them into the top half of the table depending on other results going their way but they are capable of doubling their points tally after this game.
Here’s the side Poyet could name for the match.
GK – Vito Mannone
The former Arsenal shot stopper has looked at home as the club’s number one and they’re benefiting from that confidence.
RB – Santiago Vergini
He’ll get better and become more effective with the more Premier League appearances that he makes.
CB – John O’Shea
O’Shea provides experience in the back four. He’s also well suited to dealing with any aerial threat Burnley put together.
CB – Wes Brown
Brown also provides experience and an aggressive edge. He’s willing to go for tackles in dangerous areas which can be vital.
LB – Patrick van Aanholt
The former Chelsea defender should continue at left-back. He’s important in terms of overlapping on the left and providing additional width.
RM – Adam Johnson
Johnson is a big threat from the right. He’s dangerous when he cuts inside and onto his left foot looking for an excuse to shoot.
CM – Lee Cattermole
Cattermole provides leadership and grit in the middle of the team. He’ll be the player looking to put his boot in and break up the play.
CM – Seb Larsson
Larsson will keep things settle and will stroke the passes around, looking to switch the play when he has the chance and freedom to do so.
CM – Jack Rodwell
Rodwell is thriving at the club after his move from Manchester City. Expect to see him the furthest forward out of the central midfielders.
LM – Emanuele Giaccherini
One change Poyet could consider is bringing Giaccherini in on the left hand side of midfield. He’ll inject pace and real drive into the attack.
ST – Connor Wickham
This is an important game for Wickham. If he scores, he’ll enhance his reputation and make himself harder to drop for the boss.
