Match to be played on Saturday 20th September 2014 at 17:30. Venue: Boleyn Ground, London.
Liverpool will be determined to react positively to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa but it won’t be easy with a trip to West Ham always difficult.
Here’s the predicted Liverpool side for the trip to Upton Park.
GK – Simon Mignolet
Liverpool’s number one and he’ll be in the team throughout the season unless he gets injured or suspended.
RB – Javi Manquillo
Has made a decent start to life at the club since moving from Atletico in the summer. There are no imminent signs he’ll be replaced.
CB – Dejan Lovren
Has been a little inconsistent but when everything clicks, there are few better centre-backs around.
CB – Mamadou Sakho
Sakho looks better for having had a season of English football under his belt. He’ll make it difficult for West Ham at both ends.
LB – Alberto Moreno
Looks like a very decent left-back and well worth the effort for the Reds to sign him during the summer.
RM – Raheem Sterling
Sterling may start in a wide role but he won’t stay there, drifting into central positions to have an impact behind the main forward.
CM – Jordan Henderson
Henderson can play any role across the middle of the team. He’ll most likely start slightly to the right hand side.
CM – Steven Gerrard
Gerrard injects a little bit of experience into the middle of the team. Rodgers knows exactly what he’s getting from the skipper.
CM – Adam Lallana
Lallana is a very versatile attacking player who can rotate with Sterling in the number ten slot.
LM – Philippe Coutinho
Coutinho has previously been described as Liverpool’s brain. He’ll move inside when Moreno gets forward and creates the width.
ST – Mario Balotelli
Balotelli is off and running after scoring against Ludogorets. That goal will give him plenty of confidence.
