The latest Manchester United transfer news, views and rumours.

Wayne Rooney

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has revealed that captain Wayne Rooney will be the first name on his team-sheet every week - regardless of any other factors.

"I don’t think any player is fixed," he told reporters.

"Only the captain has more privileges but no other player has privileges I think. Every player knows that because you see how I manage my teams – my captain shall always play and normally the goalkeeper."

Robin van Persie

Strikers Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao, however, face less certainty when it comes to Van Gaal's selections.

Indeed, the Dutchman says one is bound to be left out at a certain point as he has five players to choose from in 'two striker positions.'

"I don’t think that Falcao interferes with Van Persie or Van Persie interferes with Falcao.

"Falcao is a very good striker but I said in the first press conference that I like Van Persie also. He’s also a very good striker and we also have Rooney, [Adnan] Januzaj and [James] Wilson. We have five players for the two strikers positions and I have to choose."

Cristiano Ronaldo

Elsewhere, the Man United boss has essentially admitted his interest in bringing Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo back to Manchester.

The Portugal forward left United for Madrid for what was, at the time, a world-record fee and Van Gaal wants to bring Ronaldo back to the club.

But it won't be easy if Real are unprepared to sell, he says...

"It is possible," Van Gaal said when questioned about a potential Ronaldo return to Old Trafford.

"That's what I have said with Falcao. Players like Ronaldo give a lot of extra to a team, but I don't think Real Madrid shall sell him."

Despite the hands-off warning Madrid recently issued about Ronaldo, the London Evening Standard claim Van Gaal will still pursue the 29-year-old in the transfer market.
