The young midfielder highlighted two areas of his game where Fazio contributes significantly.
Bentaleb told the Tottenham website: “We know he’s a really good player, he helps us in the air with his height and he can pass the ball. Even though it was hard today he really helped us.”
The 27-year-old signed from Europa League winners Sevilla for a fee of around £8 million and the Argentine defender provides necessary experience as well as decent depth at the back. Spurs will look to go far in this season's competition and do well in the Premier League in order to achieve Champions League qualification, and a player of Fazio's know-how around the club should help.
The experience of someone who won the competition last season is good for the side to have close to them. Fazio is facing stiff competition to get a regular starting place. Younes Kaboul has just been named club captain and is likely to play more games than not, whilst Jan Vertonghen is highly rated - and Mauricio Pochettino also signed Eric Dier from Sporting Lisbon.
A good ball playing centre-half is someone that Pochettino sought to buy for much of the summer and if Fazio plays at his best then the chances are the Argentine could be vindicated in his decision. But his height can also mean their more physical opponents could have their work cut out when they come up against Spurs.
Hugo Lloris also had his say on Fazio after last night's performance, saying: “He was really comfortable and his adaptation has been very good in the team.”
