United morning news: Mata twist; potential double transfer blow; Blackett praise

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

According to reports emanating from Spain, Italian club Juventus have turned their attention away from Manchester United play-maker Juan Mata and on to Barcelona’s Pedro.

The English press have picked up on claims from Spanish newspaper Sport that the Serie A champions are no longer interested in a player who was tipped to leave Old Trafford in January, following the arrivals of Radamel Falcao and Angel di Maria.

And yet Mata continues to start for Louis van Gaal’s club, and continues to score, so rumours of his United demise seem a tad premature.

In other news, the Daily Star has run a transfer round-up relating to United, in which it claims the club could miss out on both Edinson Cavani and Marco Reus next summer.

Given the presence of Falcao and Di Maria, one could question exactly why van Gaal needs either player, especially following rumours that United actually opted against signing the Uruguayan front-man after former manager David Moyes had not been impressed on three separate scouting missions.

And finally, the Manchester Evening News has run a feature on United defender Tyler Blackett.

The youngster has played in all the club’s Premier League matches to date and the report states that Blackett is “flying the flag for Manchester” alongside the club’s array of big money signings.
