Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney recalls the last time the Red Devils won the Premier League title.

With no European football this week and confidence high at Manchester United, Wayne Rooney has seemingly been reflecting on the last time the club won the Premier League title.

On Thursday, the England international forward posted the following photo on Instagram along with the message: ‘TBT - Me and Kai with the Premier League trophy’.

United last won the league title in the 2012-13 season - Sir Alex Ferguson’s final year as a football manager. The Red Devils won it in style too, finishing 11 points ahead of second-placed Manchester City.

Last season, though, United endured one of their worst campaigns in history, finishing as low as seventh in the Premier League table under David Moyes.

City, who had clinched the title in 2012, regained the championship in 2014 and are many football followers’ favourites to win the league this season.

At this moment in time, United’s main objective is to finish in the top four. New manager Louis van Gaal got his first competitive win as the Manchester outfit’s manager on Sunday – a 4-0 hammering of Queens Park Rangers at Old Trafford – and optimism is high among the players and the fans.

Can United regain the Premier League title this season? It does not seem very likely at the moment, but you never know in football, do you?
