Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has never admitted in public, but it was widely reported that he had made an approach to Schalke for Julian Draxler in January.
The Gunners reportedly made a bid for the Germany international on deadline day, but it was rebuffed by the Bundesliga outfit.
The Premier League outfit did not come back for Draxler in the summer transfer window, and neither did any other club as it was made clear that the 20-year-old wanted to remain at Schalke.
The £37 million-rated attacking midfielder was in London on Wednesday for Schalke’s Champions League Group G clash against Chelsea.
Draxler was in superb form against the Premier League giants at Stamford Bridge and was a key reason why the Royal Blues could earn a 1-1 draw.
After the match, the youngster swapped shirts with Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, as shown in the photo below:

At the start of the season, Draxler said that he wants to step up his game this term so that he becomes ‘attractive to big clubs again’ (click here to read more). If he continues to play the way he did against Chelsea, then he surely will.
