The 24-year-old looked set to follow a host of star names out of the St Mary's exit door this summer, but he has put his turbulent summer behind him already by making his most impressive start to a season with the Saints.
Schneiderlin - who has been at the club for seven years, has thrived in Ronald Koeman's new-look Southampton side so far, and the Frenchman will be hoping to continue to improve after revealing that he is now "very happy" to be at the club.
"I never wanted to disrespect anyone at the club,” he said. “Sometimes in life you need to make choices and everyone was worried when we lost so many players.
"But the club showed, by buying some good players and bringing in a top manager, that they still have ambitions and that is really what I was asking for.
"I’m very happy here. The club has been very good to me for seven years now and I want to pay them back.”
He is certainly impressing early on this season, and his excellent curled effort in the 4-0 win against Newcastle on Saturday saw him take his tally to three for the campaign - one more than he registered in the entire season last year.
Schneiderlin has impressed in the Premier League with the Saints since they returned to the top-flight in 2012, and he has continued to go from strength to strength each year despite playing under three different managers in the past three seasons.

The Frenchman has scored three goals in four games, and has registered more shots than in the opening four fixtures this season than either of the previous two.
He has also made more accurate passes per game in the opening four this season, and has seen much more of the ball in each game too.
Schneiderlin has become even more of a presence in the Saints midfield under Koeman, and he has given the side another attacking threat from midfield, while still remaining solid in the centre of the park.
There was a time during the summer when it looked unlikely that the 24-year-old would ever wear the Southampton shirt again, but his performances so far will have delighted fans.
He has helped the side pick up seven points from their opening four games, and they currently sit in fourth place in the Premier League.
With the summer behind them, Southampton look as solid, if not more than they were at the end of the last campaign, and they will hope to improve on last years impressive eighth place finish come May.
