Nani is still technically a Manchester United player, but he is currently playing for his former club Sporting Lisbon.
The winger joined the Portuguese giants on a season-long loan deal from the Red Devils last month, after new manager Louis van Gaal did not consider him part of his plans for the 2014-15 campaign.
Nani moved to United from Sporting back in 2007 and was rated by some to be as good as Cristiano Ronaldo. Following the departure of his Portuguese compatriot to Real Madrid in the summer of 2009, the 27-year-old was expected to step up.
Although the Portugal international showed his talent and skills to the Old Trafford faithful, he was not consistent enough and did not develop as much as he was expected to.
In September 2013, Nani was given a new contract that would see him remain at United until June 2018, but last month he was farmed out on loan to Sporting.
On Wednesday, Nani played against NK Maribor in the Lisbon outfit’s opening Champions League Group G clash in Slovenia and scored a sensational goal in the 80th minute.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw, and Nani’s goal was the highlight. Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher hailed him for his truly stunning strike, but insisted that United were right not to have included him in their plans for the 2014-15 season.
‘I don’t think so’, the ex-England international defender told Sky Sports when asked if criticisms against Nani at United were harsh.
‘I think if we had seen a lot more of Nani, he would probably still be there... In the end, I think the crowd got tired of him... If he produced more of that (the goal against Maribor), then he would still be there (at United)’.
Most United fans would agree with Carragher’s opinion. Nani lacks consistency and is simply not at the same level as Ronaldo.
