A selection of the latest news involving Liverpool Football Club this Thursday morning.

Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli wants to learn more and more according to manager Brendan Rodgers, saying the Italian has looked into the history of both the club and the city.

Balotelli scored his first goal for the Reds on his third appearance for the club in the Champions League win over Ludogorets on Tuesday, and the Liverpool boss has praised his work rate as he builds up his fitness.

He's quoted in the Liverpool Echo, saying: “He’s a boy who has really looked into the history of the club and he understands the great strikers of the past.

“When I spoke to him when I first met him he still had this keenness to want to learn and when you see his work against Ludogorets, he put his body on the line and he needs to do more of that.

“I think that will come when he gets fitter and getting into good positions will allow him to score goals."

There is a bit of transfer rumour even in September, and that comes from the Daily Mirror who are reporting that Liverpool and Chelsea are battling it out for Bayer Leverkusen starlet Julian Brandt.

Brendan Rodgers has reportedly been to watch the 18-year-old midfielder personally having been scouted by the club.

Newly appointed vice-captain Jordan Henderson has said the Reds will get used to European competition after their late win over Ludogorets on Tuesday, where the side put in a less than convincing performance.

The midfielder is quoted in the Liverpool Echo, saying: “We thought it would be difficult as there are no easy games in the Champions League.

“It wasn’t easy at all and they made it difficult.

“We will learn a lot from it but the most important thing was three points."
