The former Arsenal striker scored twice for the Italian side in a 5-1 win over CSKA Moscow.
The Ivory Coast international got on the scoresheet twice as the Italians topped the group in the early stages of their European campaign.
Roma are seen as the outsiders to get out of the difficult looking group given the champions of Germany and England in Bayern Munich and Manchester City respectively make up the group.
The former Arsenal striker is quoted by UEFA.com, saying: "Roma can go a long way. We have an objective, to qualify for the knockout stages, and we hope we can make it. Manchester City and Bayern are very strong clubs with good teams and the games against both of them are going to be very difficult, but I have faith in our side and I believe we will qualify. But we have got a lot of respect for Bayern and Manchester City."
It is certainly a confident stance from Gervinho, who face City next in the competition on September 30 at the Etihad Stadium.
It seems like a crucial game for City given their late defeat to Bayern Munich in the Allianz arena, and Roma may feel a draw could be enough in Manchester. After the defeat, it's essential that City bounce back with a win to give themselves the best possible chance of qualifying.
Before the draw Roma were seen as the side from Pot Four to avoid. Their first performance in the group stage this season suggests they are not a side to be underestimated.
Bayern are expected to top the group, whilst City and Roma are expected to battle it out for the second qualification spot.
