Last year saw several Premier League teams linked with MK Dons midfielder Dele Alli. Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle United were all reported keen ... as were Liverpool. In fact Liverpool are believed to be the front-runners for the 18-year-old’s talented services.
The marauding maestro had caught the eye with a handful of impressive performances - but is now a regular in the Dons side.
Recently he has been outstanding for an in form MK Dons side and has been compared heavily to Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard in some quarters, including by his own manager and Liverpool fan Karl Robinson.
This season he is once again said to be attracting Liverpool interest with a string of excellent performances for the League One club.
He has three goals in seven appearances in the league this season as MK Dons sit pretty in fourth spot in the table.
And now, much to the joy of the Dons faithful, Alli has committed his immediate future to the club. The box-to-box midfielder has agreed a deal keeping him at the stadium:mk until 2017.
Speaking about the new deal the player himself said:
"I'm delighted. This came as a bit of surprise but I'm thankful to the manager, the chairman and the club for this new deal and I hope to repay everyone on the pitch.
"My focus is solely on playing for the Dons. I'm a Milton Keynes boy so I couldn't be happier representing my local team. I'm playing regularly in the first team as well which will only stand me in good stead for the future. I love this club and it would be a dream to help take them to the next level."
So it would appear that he is not only just comparable to Gerrard in playing style and ability - but also mentality. Alli could easily up sticks and leave his hometown club, as Gerrard could have on several occasions in his illustrious career.
But instead he is trying to take his beloved Dons as far as he can before he inevitably heads for more illustrious pastures.
