This week was not exactly the best advert for English teams in the Champions League. Liverpool scraped a win against Ludogorets Razgrad, Arsenal and Manchester City were defeated by Germany's top two whilst Chelsea through away a 1-0 lead against Schalke 04.
As you can already see there was a big German influence in the fixtures this week - with three Premier League sides taking on Bundesliga opposition.
So what have the German press made of the results?
Undoubtedly they are very pleased. Bayern and Dortmund's wins were expected in some parts but for Schalke to get a point at Stamford Bridge - that was a real coup.
But what has caught they eye is a piece in Sport Bild dubbed 'Tops and Flops'.
The paper chose who they felt was their best performer of the Champions League matchday one and went with Dortmund striker Ciro Immobile. The Italian international was excellent against Arsenal and scored a fabulous solo goal, so fair is fair in this case.
The same could also be said about the player they voted as the flop of the week. Chelsea striker Didier Drogba.
Re-signed by Chelsea from Galatasaray this summer Jose Mourinho handed him a start as Diego Costa continues to struggle with a niggling hamstring problem.
But he struggled to make anything like an impact, leaving the £32 million man Costa with the improbably chance of turning things around in 18 second half minutes.
It was a poor performance from Drogba and it has many questioning the legs on their ageing legend. Time will tell if the Ivorian can rekindle some of his past glory for Chelsea - but so far, the signs are not good.
