Fulham suffered their sixth league defeat of the season at Nottingham Forest, with a hat-trick from striker Britt Assombalonga sealing a 5-3 win for the home side to heap further pressure on manager Felix Magath.
Assombalonga netted twice in the first 21 minutes, the second from a spot-kick, before £11 million striker Ross McCormack hit back for the visitors before the half.
Fellow front man Hugo Rodallega then equalised five minutes after the break, before McCormack grabbed his second in the 65th-minute to put the Cottagers in front.
Stuart Pearce’s side fought back in fine fashion, however, with goals from Michail Antonio, Assombalonga and Jamie Paterson over the final 13 minutes leaving Fulham stranded at the foot of the Championship table with just one point from their seven matches.
Magath has overseen only four victories since taking over at Craven Cottage in February, one of those coming in the Capital One Cup against Brentford in August, with the German proving unable to save the club from Premier League relegation last season.
A 1-0 win over Norwich on 12 April was the last time the club managed to claim three points, but the former Wolfsburg boss is, nevertheless, remaining defiant in the face of mounting criticism.
‘I don't think about my position. I just work with my team. They played very well and scored three times. We were very unlucky,’ he told Sky Sports.
‘I understand the fans' frustrations. I'm very sad we are bottom with one point. It is terrible for the players, myself and the supporters.’
Terrible would fit the description most fans had for this most recent result, and the reactions shows that support for Magath is just about non-existent at this point.
Nice if instead of waiting for a payout. Magath just resigned. Not all his fault but the job is beyond him. Please just go now. #ffc— Russell Potter (@Dullbuthonest) September 17, 2014
Just fear we may of been just not bad enough to have Magath sacked tonight #FFC— Sam Wheeler (@wheelerdeeler) September 17, 2014
These fulham fans who want Magath to stay must need there heads testing, were an utter shambles #ffc— Michael J Coleman (@mjcoleman881) September 17, 2014
I could go to work tomorrow, delete the website and set fire to the office and I STILL won't be as bad at my job as Magath. #FFC— Matt Domm (@mattdjourno) September 17, 2014
