Raphael Varane has committed his long-term future to Real Madrid.
When Jose Mourinho returned to Chelsea from Real Madrid last summer some of his more faithful Madrid players were linked with following him to Stamford Bridge. Diego Lopez, Sami Khedira, Alvaro Arbeloa - but perhaps most excitingly, young French centre back Raphael Varane.
Jose Mourinho gave him his big break at the Bernabeu and the French talent took it with open hands, shining in the 2012-13 season.
However, since Mourinho left, Varane has not been the darling of the capital any more.
Carlo Ancelotti uses him sparingly and he also spent much of last season on the treatment table with a serious injury.
With all things considered Mourinho has often been linked with trying to coax Varane to London, perhaps as a long-term replacement for John Terry.
But if the signing of his countryman Kurt Zouma didn't put an end to the rumours surrounding the player then this will - as he is now contracted at Real until 2020.
Real Madrid confirmed the deal on their official website earlier today, the official statement reading:
"The Real Madrid CF announces the extension of contract between the player Raphael Varane with the club until June 30, 2020."
A mammoth commitment from one of the world's best young centre-backs and one which screams 'hands-off' to the likes of Mourinho and Chelsea.
