VIDEO: Chelsea teenager's outstanding run sets up goal in 4-1 win

Stamford Bridge

Chelsea's under-19s won their opening UEFA Youth League match 4-1 on Wednesday.

While Chelsea’s senior side were preparing for their Champions League match against FC Schalke, the Blues’ under-19 side faced their German counterparts in the UEFA Youth League.

The match ended 4-1 to Chelsea, with a brace from Izzy Brown and one goal each from Dominic Solanke and Ola Aina cancelling out an early Maurice Multhaup equaliser.

Much has already been written about Chelsea’s next generation, with Brown, Solanke and Ruben Loftus-Cheek among those most regularly praised; and it was the latter who made a few headlines of his own despite Brown’s impressive double.

Schalke were on the attack, in Chelsea’s box, when midfielder Loftus-Cheek intercepted the ball and went on a run that ultimately took him deep into the German side’s half.

Having run through half the opposition as if they were not there, he laid the ball off to Charly Musonda who floated a cross into the path of Solanke to slot home.

It was a fantastic, counter-attacking goal that proved even more emphatically that some of these Chelsea youngsters will surely make it at Stamford Bridge eventually.
