Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli scored his first goal for the club in a 2-1 win against Ludogorets in the Champions League last night.
It was a gritty performance from Brendan Rodgers’ side but they got over the line with three important points ahead of much tougher matches to come in the competition this season.
Balotelli produced the sort of performance his talent has always suggested is possible and if he maintains a similar display throughout the season, he’ll put Daniel Sturridge under a lot of pressure when he returns to fitness.
His stats from the game showed a complete, all round performance. He was effective when the ball was on the deck and he was effective when the Reds played the ball into him aerially.

What was most impressive about the finish last night, wasn’t the beauty of the goal itself but the way the Italian showed great strength to create the opportunity for himself to put the ball away.
The trick for the club and Brendan Rodgers is getting him into a mentality where he produces similar performances on a consistent basis to ensure the Reds get the best possible striker for each game.
It’s also important for Balotelli that he continues to find ways to be effective in Liverpool’s attack.
Sides will look to get beneath his skin and they will look to use various tactics to keep him quiet during big games.
If he can reinvent himself in those instances, he should be able to repeat his impressive stats from last night and that works firmly in Liverpool’s favour as they look to win some silverware this season.
