The south London side were reportedly interested in signing Papiss Cisse this summer.
Papiss Cisse could be set to return to action for Newcastle United this weekend.
But, according to the Daily Mail, the Senegalese striker could have joined Crystal Palace this summer.
The 29-year-old may finally be in line to return from a knee injury against Hull City in the Premier League, at a time when the Magpies are desperate for goals, having scored just three in four league matches to date this season.
Palace, however, could have prised Cisse away from St James' Park, while a number of clubs in the Middle East were also said to be interested in the striker.
Could the Senegal man have been better off away from Tyneside?
|Team||Pos||Goals||Assists||Dribbles Won||Aerial Duels Won||Apps||Mins|
|Papiss Demba Cissé||Newcastle||FW||2||2||9||34||24||1,383|
|Hatem Ben Arfa||Newcastle||MF||3||3||67||3||27||1,303|
As Opta stats show, Cisse scored and assisted just two goals in last season's Premier League, winning only nine dribbles and 34 aerial duels in 24 appearances.
Newcastle were generally a low scoring side last term but, even then, five players scored more than Cisse, who is supposed to lead the line for the Magpies.
That means his return this weekend might not necessarily change much for Alan Pardew's side in the final third.
If he somehow does get back to goalscoring ways, however, Palace may be ruing not moving for the 29-year-old.
