Aston Villa's excellent start to the season has also been an excellent start to the season off of it. They made some excellent acquisitions this summer, including the appointment of Roy Keane as their new assistant coach, and have also begun tieing down some of their more important commodities to longer term deals.
They recently agreed a deal with Gabby Agbonlahor to extend his stay at the club and have now opened up discussions with Fabian Delph, who recently made his England debut, over his deal.
They also want to secure their World Cup star Ron Vlaar to a new deal. The 29-year-old skipper had a tremendous summer with the Dutch national team and that reportedly alerted the attention of Manchester United, Arsenal and Southampton to the fact he might be available.
But throughout all the conjecture and rumour his agent continuously made it clear Vlaar was going nowhere - and that indeed proved the case.
But with his contract expiring next summer rumours have continued that Vlaar may remain on the shortlist for many a top manager for next year.
But the good news for Villa fans, is that Vlaar does not sound like he is in any rush to get on his bike.
He told Helden Online this week:
"I don't feel disappointed [at staying with Villa], I have always maintained that I am enjoying myself at Villa and that is still true. I just want to keep giving my best here."
So Tom Fox and co, it is time to sit down with Vlaar and pencil in this new deal - before someone tries to change his persuasion.
