Nathan Baker has revealed that Philippe Senderos helped him through the side's 1-0 victory against Liverpool.
Senderos joined Aston Villa over the summer and he has clearly made a big impact on his new players as well as the fans, with his experience proving key.
Baker is still trying to adapt to playing regular first-team football and, at the age of 23, still has a lot of time to learn, but he shone against Liverpool.
The English defender proved to be a rock at the heart of the Villa defence as they picked up a shock victory, and he says that Senderos' guidance was a major reason behind his personal performance.
"Philippe has a lot of experience and that helped me through the game at Anfield," Baker told the club's official site.
Villa are unbeaten so far this season, with Senderos proving a key figure in the club's good start.
The imposing centre-back has struck up good understanding with the rest of Villa defence immediately and they are proving a very hard side to break down.
Indeed, Baker, who has been at Villa Park for his whole career, has praised the impact that Senderos has had in his initial time at the Midlands side.
"He has been solid at the back for us so I hope it continues for him.
"I can't put my finger on exactly what's changed overall to contribute to our great start.
"I think we've brought in some new players with a bit more experience and that's helped the younger lads come through.
"Like Ron [Vlaar], Phillippe has bags of experience. In training, we're always helping each other and learning from one another."
Villa were tipped as one of the favourites to go down this season, but their initial performances have belied this status.
Paul Lambert's side have climbed up to second position, on ten points, in the embryonic Premier League table and will now be looking to build upon this fine start.
Viila's next game is against Arsenal in front of their own fans and, although they will be underdogs, they will be buoyed by the fact they have already beaten one of the top four contenders this season.
