Manchester City morning news: Kompany on Champions League challenge as owner increases pressure

A round up of news stories this morning about Manchester City.

Vincent Kompany says it will be classed as a failure if his side don’t win the Champions League this season.

The Belgian is expected to start in the mega game against Bayern Munich, as City look to start the group stage with three points.

“You start a season at Manchester City nowadays and it’s not acceptable not to put all the trophies on your ambitions list - We are not favourites by any means for this competition, but we would like to compete and challenge,” he said.

The Daily Star has reported that Manchester City’s owner, Sheikh Mansour, wants the club to lift the European Cup this season.

Since he started injecting his fortune into the club, City have won two Premier League titles as well as the FA Cup and the League Cup domestically.

Bayern Munich skipper Philipp Lahm says his side can’t allow Manchester City to breathe when the teams meet in the Champions League this evening.

Bayern will be out for revenge after City picked up a win in this fixture last season.

“If we let them breathe, then they can hurt us. They have dynamic players and they can hurt us,” he told the press.
