Evans: This United star will be the best in the world in his position

Manchester United ace Jonny Evans believes that Luke Shaw will become the world's best left-back in the future.

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans believes that Luke Shaw can develop into the world's best left-back.

Shaw joined United in a deal worth around £30 million from Southampton earlier this summer, but he is yet to make an appearance for the first team.

Fitness worries and an injury have thwarted his chances at Old Trafford so far, but he has clearly shown enough in training to impress his new teammates.

"I had the chance to work with Luke in pre-season and there is no doubt he is going to be the best left-back in the world," Evans said.

United supporters will be hoping that their centre-back is proven right in his prediction, as Louis Van Gaal parted with a lot of money to land the full-back.

Shaw is unquestionably a talented player and his breakthrough season last year was hugely impressive, but he is still inexperienced at the top level.

He is also competing for places with a United squad who look far better equipped when he came to the club at the start of the summer.

Shaw was an early arrival in the transfer window and he has watched a number of notable additions come it to add competition for places.

The Red Devil's defence may still be a work in progress, but with the likes of Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo brought in, who can both play left-back, Shaw will know he will have to be at the top of his game to force his way into the squad.

The good thing for the 19-year-old is that when he does make his debut he is likely to join a side filled with more confidence than they would have been at the start of the season.

United only picked up their first win of the season last weekend, as their new arrivals had the desired effect, and they will be looking to build on this now.

Van Gaal is hoping to launch the side back into title contention this season and Shaw will be aiming to play a big part in that - as he looks to continue his development.
