Leeds United striker Mirco Antenucci has tweeted following his goal in the club’s 3-1 victory over Bournemouth.
"Very happy for the victory last night and for the goal," he wrote.
The Italian front-man's strike settled the tie as a contest, the 30-year-old completing Leeds’ 23-minute three-goal haul with a composed 89th-minute finish.
There were glimmers of hope from United’s performance against Birmingham City last weekend, but this was emphatic proof that United are on the up under their caretaker boss Neil Redfearn.
Andrew Surman had put Bournemouth ahead in the sixth minute and that was how it stayed until the final quarter of the game.
Souleymane Doukara equalised for the visitors before two goals in the last eight minutes, from Guiseppe Bellusci and Mirco Antenucci ensured Leeds took all three points.
Redfearn had gone into the match claiming this would be one of his club’s toughest matches of the season, and he maintained that feeling after the game, saying the hosts were “the best footballing team in the league”.
But if that is the case, Leeds should be extremely proud of their efforts; Antenucci certainly is.
