Paul Merson is bullish in his opinion that Arsenal will get the better of Borussia Dortmund in their Champions League clash tonight.
The Gunners will take on the German outfit in their opening Group D match at Signal Iduna Park in a few hours’ time.
Dortmund have been one of the most entertaining sides to watch in recent years and reached the final of the Champions League in 2013.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were also drawn against Arsenal in the group stage last season and actually finished ahead of Arsene Wenger’s team.
However, Dortmund lost to the Premier League giants at home in the 2013-14 campaign, and Arsenal legend Merson expects a similar result tonight.
Merson seems quite confident in his opinion that Arsenal will win and claims that Dortmund are not the team they were anymore.
The 46-year-old former England international also highlights that the Bundesliga club are without Marco Reus. The Germany international attacking midfielder is injured and his loss could be massive, although former Manchester United player Shinji Kagawa is back firing on all cylinders and could prove to be an able replacement.
Interestingly, Merson backs Danny Welbeck to score the first goal tonight. The England international striker, who joined Arsenal from United on transfer deadline day for a reported transfer fee of £16 million, was unlucky not to find the net against Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday (click here to read more).
