Leeds United fans were handed a boost yesterday when summer signings Dario Del Fabro and Brian Montenegro were named in the under-21 side against Barnsley.
Del Fabro did his job effectively in defence, which paved the way for a 3-1 win and Montenegro gave a glimpse to both sides of his game.
The forward pounced to score the first goal of the game, which put Leeds ahead, but he also showed he was a little rusty during the game, missing two one-on-ones with the Barnsley goalkeeper which could have increased his side’s advantage.

The pair were making their first performances for the club this season in any competition, which suggests it’s too soon for them to figure in the first team.
Leeds take on Bournemouth this evening in a match where Neil Redfearn will be hoping for a win in temporary charge of the side, but the timing of the game makes the inclusion of Del Fabro and Montenegro difficult.
They could both feature but the turnaround and rest time following the under-21 game has been non-existent, which is significant when considering that both players need to increase their match fitness and sharpness.
A similar situation can be applied to Adryan, who played for the under-21 side last week but wasn’t included in the Leeds team to take on Birmingham City.
Everything is moving in the right direction for Leeds in terms of their new signings coming into the fold and it will be interesting to see whether Montenegro can improve his conversion rate on his next start for the club.
