Manchester City latest: Boss on facing Bayern; Milner’s confidence

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has been speaking ahead of his club’s Champions League match against Bayern Munich.

The two sides face each other on Wednesday, and the Blues boss has revealed how they will approach the match.

In quotes published by City’s official website, the Chilean said, “I think that we will approach it as we do most of our matches, trying always to impose our footballing qualities, and to overcome Bayern Munich with our footballing qualities; but to also consider details regarding our opponents, not as a priority but as something important.”

City have recent experience against the German giants, and Pellegrini revealed that one of the main things he wants his side to do is keep possession as much as possible.

“When we give the ball to Bayern Munich we know it is very difficult to beat them,” the manager added.

In other news, City midfielder James Milner has had his say on the upcoming game.

In quotes published by the Herald, the England international said, “We beat them at their place last year, so we should take a lot of confidence from that and go into the game with no fear, knowing that we have been there before and got three points.”

This is a very different proposition, with both sides knowing the opening match of the group stage could play a big part on who ultimately qualifies for the knock-out stages. But Bayern star Philipp Lahm recently praised City and Pep Guardiola’s side will not be taking their opponents lightly.

It all makes for a fascinating encounter.
