Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho has been speaking ahead of the Reds’ Champions League game against Ludogorets Razgrad on Tuesday evening.
The French defender is likely to be vital for his side as they look to return to their European successes of the past, and that history is something Sakho is well aware of.
In an interview with Liverpool’s official website, the former Paris Saint-Germain player said of the Anfield roar on European nights, “I’ve heard it on the television.
“I was very young at the time, I was still learning, but I know the atmosphere is very special when there is a Champions League match at Anfield.”
And after time away from Europe’s elite club competition, the Liverpool faithful are sure to make it an extra special night when Brendan Rodgers’ side take on the Bulgarian champions.
“I’m proud,” Sakho said of the occasion. “When I arrived last year one of my targets was to get us Champions League football, which we succeeded in doing.”
That they did, but now the tough part begins, with Liverpool knowing there are no easy games in the tournament despite their opponents being branded as the token minnows.
But with FC Basel and Real Madrid up next, nothing less than three points will do this evening.
