Liverpool are back among the big boys after a five-year absence. The Merseyside outfit are currently playing their first Champions League game of the season at the moment.
The Reds are taking on Bulgarian champions Ludogorets Razgrad in their opening Group B game at Anfield.
In the other match in the group, reigning European champions and Spanish giants Real Madrid are up against Swiss club FC Basel.
Liverpool are expected to at least finish second in the group and progress to the last 16, but club legend Jamie Carragher believes that Brendan Rodgers’s side can go as far as the quarter-finals.
At this moment in time, it appears a bit too much to perceive Liverpool in the last eight. After all, they have not even finished their first game!
However, Liverpool do have a chance of progressing to the quarter-finals. Given the quality of squad they have, the Premier League outfit should finish at least second in Group B. Real Madrid are expected win the group and Ludogorets are supposedly the whipping boys – which leaves Basel as their main competitor.
In the last 16, Liverpool could be paired against one of the best teams in the Champions League. Over two legs in a knockout tie, it is not impossible for the Reds to win and book a place in the quarter-finals.
