Liverpool fans react on twitter to Jordan Henderson's appointment as vice-captain - 'hard work and graft pays off'

Liverpool FC - Seeing Is Believing - Jordan Henderson

Jordan Henderson was announced as Steven Gerrard's deputy last night.

Liverpool announced that Jordan Henderson will be the club's vice-captain last night after the departure of Daniel Agger this summer.

The 24-year-old midfielder has enjoyed a remarkable couple of seasons under Brendan Rodgers at the club where he has become an important member of the starting XI for both his club and country.

The appointment seems to have received widespread approval amongst Liverpool fans, and completes a remarkable turnaround of the midfielder's career, given that he was close to leaving the club back in the summer of 2012 - just a season after he signed for the club for £16 million.

Manager Brendan Rodgers is quoted in the Liverpool Echo, saying: “When he came in he maybe had a difficult season. My first summer here he had the opportunity to leave. We were talking about it the other day.

“I said to him ‘listen, you have the chance to go to Fulham. You can either go there and play every week or stay here. I can’t guarantee you games straightaway but I know one thing for sure, I will improve you as a player’.

“He wanted to stay and he felt that first period out of the team really helped him tactically as he could work more looking at videos and analysing his game. From there he has really grown in confidence.

“Now for both club and country he holds himself really well. He has great stature and I think he will be around here for many years.”

It looks as if when the time comes for Steven Gerrard to hang up his boots, Henderson will be the man to lead the side. Here is what a few of the fans on twitter had to say, on what seems a very popular choice:
