German goalkeeper offered WWE wrestling role

Ex-Germany goalkeeper Tim Wiese has been approached by the WWE who want him to make the unusual career move from footballer to wrestler.

Tim Wiese has been a free agent since being released from his contract at Hoffenheim in January and the bulky goalkeeper may embark on a new career path.

The 32-year-old's spell at Hoffenheim was something of a disaster after he conceded 15 goals in four matches and then sustained an injury.

Since leaving the club, Wiese, who weighs around 18 stone has been working out hard in the gym and cuts an impressive figure, which has attracted an unusual offer of employment.

"I have an official enquiry from the WWE about working for them as a wrestler," he is quoted as saying by German newspaper Bild.

"I will listen to it. I'm not s****ing my pants, so why should I immediately say no?

"Wrestling is very popular, especially in the USA and I will talk the enquiry through with my agent next week."

Wiese was briefly Germany's top goalkeeper and made six appearances for his country between 2008 and 2012, travelling to the 2010 World Cup as a reserve.

This would be one of the more bizarre moves for a player in recent years but the opportunity could be extremely lucrative for Wiese, who is struggling to find interested clubs.
