Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling has been getting praise from many former footballers and pundits.
And deservedly so. The 19-year-old is one of the most promising players in Europe, and has been impressive for both Liverpool and England since last season.
But still, praise coming from the one and only David Beckham is something to be proud of. The Englishman is one of the most popular footballing faces of all time and is a true sporting icon.
Speaking to Squawka.com, the Manchester United legend hailed Sterling and backed him to be a great player in the future.
‘He [Sterling] is a genuine talent’, said the former Real Madrid star. ‘He had a fantastic season last year and now he needs to achieve that consistency year in and year out like all top players’.
Another promising young English player is Jack Wilshere. The Arsenal midfielder burst onto the scene as a teenager, but his progress over the past couple of years has not been as much as he would have liked.
Injuries did have a role to play in the 22-year-old’s slow development in recent times, but Beckham believes that the England international will come good in due time.
‘[Jack] can play anywhere in midfield’, he said. ‘Look at his performance against [Manchester] City - he was one of the best players and he was in a creative role. He just needs a good run without injuries and I’m sure he will shine for club and country’.
Sterling and Wilshere are still in the early stages of their footballing career and have lots of time to improve. The duo have shown that they are always trying to do their best, and such hard work is going to pay dividends at some stage.
