Angel di Maria speaks of 'enormous happiness' at Manchester United

Manchester United's £59.7 million summer recruit, Angel Di Maria, has spoken of his delight at scoring for his new club on Sunday.

Angel di Maria says that he is enormously happy to have played for Manchester United on Sunday.

The Argentine superstar was brought to United for £59.7 million in this summer’s biggest transfer, and he is already starting to pay back his expensive price-tag.

Di Maria has added energy and creativity to United’s midfield and shone during their new-look side’s outing against Queens Park Rangers at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

Although the former Real Madrid star played his first game against Burnley before the international break, it was on his home debut that he really caught the eye.

Di Maria grabbed a goal and an assist in the Red Devils' 4-0 success against QPR, and he says that his first display in front of the Old Trafford crowd could hardly have gone better.

"I wished very much for the day of my debut at Old Trafford and I did in the best way, scoring a goal," Sky Sports quotes the 26-year-old as saying. "The happiness is enormous."

Di Maria was one of a number of new recruits to shine in United’s first competitive win of the season.

Manager Louis van Gaal spent lavishly this summer to try to improve his squad, and his changes looked to have had the desired effect on Sunday.

Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind, Ander Herrera and Radamel Falcao all joined Di Maria in impressing for United on Sunday, and the three points should go a long way to allaying the fears that had emerged after a poor start.

United had won none of their first four competitive games, but this was the first chance Van Gaal had to play all his signings together and it could hardly have gone any better.

They will face tougher tests than QPR as the season progresses, but the fear-factor appears to gradually be coming back to the club, and United will be hoping that the weekend’s result proves to be the catalyst behind them launching a title bid this season.
