Match to be played on Wednesday 17th September 2014 at 19:45. Venue: Allianz Arena, München.
Things don’t get any easier for Manchester City, as just days after a trip to Arsenal they face a trip to Bayern Munich.
City have good recent memories of playing at the Allianz having won there last season and Manuel Pellegrini will be hoping his side can go one better than the draw they managed at the Gunners over the weekend.
Here’s the side Pellegrini could select for the match.
GK – Joe Hart
City’s number one has been in decent form so far this season and this sort of environment won’t bother him.
RB – Pablo Zabaleta
Zabaleta is made for these sorts of matches. A calm and experienced figure to keep the back four tightly knit.
CB – Vincent Kompany
Kompany showed no signs of an injury hangover in the game against Arsenal and he’ll be vital in the middle of the defence.
CB – Martin Demichelis
The Argentine will be confident after bagging a goal in the game against Arsenal. He looks far better than the player of last year.
LB – Gael Clichy
Clichy may just keep his place because of the pace he offers going forward, which is significant in terms of the counter attack.
RM – Samir Nasri
Nasri offers control off of the right hand side. City need as many players as possible who can protect possession.
CM – Yaya Toure
Toure is a key player for City in this game. He didn’t feature against Arsenal as he was late back from international duty, but it would be a major surprise if he doesn’t start.
CM – Fernandinho
Fernandinho will look to get around the pitch and get stuck in wherever he can. He breaks up play effectively.
LM – David Silva
Silva is a safe player for City. Pellegrini knows exactly what he’s getting from the Spaniard in terms of how he protects the ball and creates chances.
ST – Sergio Aguero
Aguero looked in good form against the Gunners. He can give the Bayern defence a variety of problems.
ST – Edin Dzeko
Dzeko will pose a different type of attacking threat of he starts up front with Aguero. He can hold the ball up well and also pin the Bayern defence back.
