PHOTO: Tottenham loanee Lewis Holtby looks dejected on Hamburg debut

Tottenham Hotspur loanee Lewis Holtby had a debut to forget as Hamburg lost to in-form Hannover.

There are big expectations in Hamburg for Lewis Holtby, but fans would be wise to remember he is no miracle worker.

After a lowly 16th placed finish last season in the Bundesliga, Hamburg have started off this campaign equally poorly.

They lost 2-0 to an impressive Hannover side, who currently sit third in the division.

Holtby, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, was played in defensive midfield, and did what he could for the cause, making three tackles and three interceptions.

Without the injured ex-Spurs playmaker Rafael van der Vaart, however Hamburg looked short of ideas in attack and were shut out by German international back-up goalkeeper Ron Robert Zieler in the Hannover goal when they did venture forward.

Hamburg now sit rooted to the bottom of the Bundesliga with just one point from three games. It's early days but the start has been far from ideal for a side looking to bounce back.

Holtby will hope for better luck when he makes his home debut next weekend, except for the slight problem that Bayern Munich are the visiting side.
