Manchester City latest: Player wants another year; Lahm praises Blues

All the latest news views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…

Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis is hoping to remain at the club beyond the summer.

That is when the Argentine international’s current contract expires, but the Blues man told the Manchester Evening News he hopes to remain for a little while yet.

“I am playing every game, every two to three days, so I am just enjoying it and taking it game be game,” he said.

“I would be happy to stay this year and then one more year because I think I will still have the quality to play at this level.”

After receiving much criticism during his early months at the club, Demichelis has become a regular and vital part of Manuel Pellegrini’s defence, but following the arrival of Eliaquim Mangala, it remains to be seen how long the older player can keep the Frenchman at bay.

In other news, Philipp Lahm has praised City ahead of their Champions League encounter with Bayern Munich.

The two sides face off on Wednesday evening, and speaking to Bayern’s official website in an interview later published by Inside Futbol, the former German international said, “Manchester City are an absolute top team.

“We’ll need to find another gear on Wednesday. But obviously, when FC Bayern play at home, we expect to win.”

City will have other ideas, as they look to continue their development by conquering Europe just as they so recently did the English top flight.
