Mata on Di Maria - 'It seems he's been with us for a long time'

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has praised Angel Di Maria in his latest blog post.

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata says it feels like Angel Di Maria has been a United player for some time.

The Argentine shone as United secured their first win of the Premier League season against QPR over the weekend, scoring his first Premier League goal for the club in a solid all-round display of attacking football.

“As regards to Di María, it seems he’s been with us for a long time. Ángel is a very enthusiastic guy, a great signing,” writes Mata in his blog.

The Spaniard has also commented that he feels the 4-0 win against QPR is the product of a lot of hard work on the United training ground.

United will now benefit from a week of rest before the side plays Leicester City, which wouldn’t be possible if the club was taking part in the Champions League or Europa League, with the group stages of each competition starting this week.

“In the last few weeks I have been telling you that we are working very well in the training sessions. With so many new players and a new football style we need time to adjust to each other.”

“Personally, playing alongside guys like Blind, Rojo or Falcao is a joy. They will become more and more adjusted to the team and their quality will help us a lot.”

Mata can also be pleased with his own performance against QPR because his goal puts pressure on manager Louis van Gaal not to drop him from the side when Radamel Falcao is fully fit.

Falcao is expected to start in United’s first choice side when he’s up to speed with his match fitness and Mata has been suggested as the midfielder who could make way with Wayne Rooney dropping in behind two main strikers.

All in all, it’s a far more positive blog post than some of the recent entries that United fans have been treated to.

Leicester won’t be an easy match as they come off the back of a win but as Mata’s blog post title reads, Manchester United are indeed ‘On the right path’.
