The £12million summer signing has yet to start a league game for his new club, but in an interview with West Ham’s official website, he revealed that he is ready if called upon.
The Ecuador international played twice for his country during the international break, and he is hoping those games have aided him in his pursuit of the match-fitness required to make a difference for Sam Allardyce’s side.
“It was good, too, to play again after some weeks of not playing full games,” Valencia said. “It’s good to get minutes to get fit, to get my match fitness back as soon as possible and then show that for West Ham.”
It was always going to take time for Valencia to reach his peak physical condition following his World Cup exploits this summer, along with the fact that he needed to get used to a new club.
But with the Hammers facing Hull this evening, he is clearly ready to go.
“Monday’s game is a very important game for the club,” he said. “I’m ready to play if the manager wants me to.”
With a £12million price-tag and a fine goal-scoring record to date, it will only be a matter of time before Valencia is unleashed from the start by West Ham. Soon we will find out if that time is now…
