Liverpool morning news, focus turns to Ludogorets after Villa defeat

Champions League

A selection of the latest stories involving Liverpool Football Club this Monday morning.

After their disappointing defeat to Aston Villa at Anfield at the weekend, Liverpool turn their attentions to the Champions League - where they face Bulgarian champions Ludogorets at Anfield tomorrow night.

Goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has told the Liverpool Echo that they're relishing the chance of putting the disappointment of Saturday evening behind them so quickly.

He said: “We have to forget about this as quickly as possible and lift ourselves for the Champions League. We have to make sure we bounce back on Tuesday night.

“Ludogorets are a bit of an unknown side for us but we have to look at ourselves. We need to make sure we improve and I’m sure we will.

“I’ve heard that the atmosphere at Anfield on European nights is always something special.

“But our focus must be on doing our jobs and making sure we get off to a winning start. It’s really important that we start the group with three points.”

Steven Gerrard is hoping the side can go on another memorable European adventure this season with the help of the club's fans.

He told the Liverpool Echo: “There’s no doubt about it, we wouldn’t have got over the line in 2005 and lifted the trophy without the backing we got from the supporters.

“My message to the supporters is that we need that kind of support going into the Champions League this year.

“All the big trophies I’ve ever experienced winning, it’s always been because the crowd have got behind us, both at Anfield and away from home."
