Derby County manager Steve McClaren was impressed with his players in the draw against Nottingham Forest, but less so with the referee.
He felt the match was too intense for the referee Paul Tierney, and the contest suffered as a result.
He told SkySports: "I thought the referee was inconsistent in decisions.
"I thought he was a little inexperience in terms of a local derby the way it was - very absorbing and very fast tempo.
"At times there were strange, strange decisions. I haven't seen the sending-off so I can't comment on it but over the course of the game he made some strange decisions."
McClaren was clearly a little frustrated to see Jake Buxton sent off late on for a second bookable offence, feeling if he had gone, there were Forest players equally deserving of the same fate.
Derby were penalised for 17 fouls during the match, and Forest 11.
