New Liverpool star Alberto Moreno has revealed what Xabi Alonso told him before moving to the Reds midway through August.
The 22-year-old left-back was heavily linked with a move to Anfield throughout the summer and after more than six weeks of negotiations, signed with the Merseysiders after Sevilla’s Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid.
Whilst in Cardiff cheering on his boyhood club, the former Sevilla academy product managed to speak to then Real Madrid star and previous Kop favourite Xabi Alonso on a move to Liverpool.
The retired Spanish international maestro spent five years at Liverpool under previous boss Rafa Benitez, and Alberto Moreno in an interview with Soccer Saturday told the audience the advice Alonso used to convince him to move to the Premier League title challengers.
“He [Alonso] told me how much I would enjoy it and how much fun it was to play in this league, any team can beat any other team and no game is a guaranteed win, so it was valuable advice from him. He said I could end up staying here for a very long time.”
Moreno has made a positive start to live in a red shirt, looking confident and assured during the defeat at Manchester City before scoring a wonderful solo effort in the 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
His home debut, however, was largely one to forget as despite a solid individual performance, Brendan Rodgers’ men were well below par as they slumped to a 1-0 loss against a stubborn Aston Villa side.
