Tottenham Hotspur slumped to a 3-0 defeat to Liverpool at White Hart Lane in the Premier League before the two-week international break.
It was the North London club’s first loss in a competitive match this season, and Mauricio Pochettino’s side were certainly looking to bounce back against Sunderland on Sunday.
However, winning at the Stadium of Light is not easy, and eventually Spurs had to settle for a 2-2 draw with the Black Cats.
Nacer Chadli found the target for Tottenham after only two minutes, but Adam Johnson hit back for Sunderland just moments later.
Christian Eriksen put Spurs back in the lead just three minutes into the second half, but with eight minutes of normal time remaining Harry Kane scored an own goal.
Tottenham were the better side during large periods of the match, with Eriksen and Erik Lamela looking impressive in their attacking moves, and the players will be disappointed to have dropped two points on the road.
After the game, Tottenham fans took to social networking site Twitter to have their say on the team’s performance. Below is a selection of their tweets.
Dembele and Capoue played really well together. I like that partnership. #thfc— Gareth (@GMMJohnson) September 14, 2014
I guess coming away with a draw was pretty good but would of preferred the win #THFC— James Julien (@JimRunning4MS) September 14, 2014
If my Sunday league team defend a free kick as badly as #thfc did for Sunderland's equalizer I will be furious! Shockingly bad.— Glen Naylor (@Glen_Naylor) September 14, 2014
Surely can't be such thing as "easy" game to integrate new players. Throw them in! Sorted new defence yet none of those players in 11 #thfc— David bird (@bird96calamity) September 14, 2014
That Sunderland game was a bit of a freak. On most other days we’d have won by some margin. But that’s sport for you. #THFC— Stuart James (@JedLomax) September 14, 2014
