Arsenal took on the Premier League champions Manchester City at The Emirates yesterday but failed to earn all three points despite a spirited display.
They drew 2-2 with goals from Jack Wilshere and Alexis Sanchez at one point having them 2-1 up against City. A goal from Martin Demichelis earned them a share of the spoils - adding to a goal scored by his fellow Argentine Sergio Aguero early in the first half.
So here are some of the images that defined the game...
Danny Welbeck made his debut for the club. The £16 million striker, signed from Manchester United, raced clear on goal after a mistake from City. His chipped effort however hit the post.
Despite an excellent start to the game from Arsenal Manchester City always looked dangerous. When Jesus Navas got the burners on and cut the ball back into the box the finish from Sergio Aguero was simple.
Jack Wilshere had a magnificent game in the heart of Arsenal's midfield. The England international has shown some good form recently and his man-of-the-match display was rewarded with a delightful chipped goal. Alexis Sanchez soon made it 2-1 and Arsenal looked like they were on their way to an excellent victory.
There were some worrying scenes in the second half as Mathieu Debuchy suffered a nasty looking ankle injury. He fell over with nobody around him, and was stretchered off with gas and air. He has since confirmed there is no break, but Wenger says it is a badly sprained ankle.
Martin Demichelis scored an equaliser and City had chances to win the game late on, but Arsenal held on for a draw.
