Chelsea, as everyone knows, have plenty of players currently out on loan from the club. Much has been made of the fact - but it is fair to say that 26 players temporarily away from the team does seem slightly excessive.
Today actually saw the opportunity for two such loanees to go head-to head. Rayo Vallecano hosted Elche today in La Liga. The home side have Frenchman Gael Kakuta in their squad while Croatian wonderkid Pasalic, who joined in the summer, is currently with Elche.
The Croatian has struggled early on in Spain, so found himself on the bench this afternoon.
Kakuta however started, and even managed a goal.
Kakuta was a controversial signing for the club, which saw them cited for an illegal approach and looking like facing a transfer ban. But he has not pulled on a Chelsea shirt in anger since January 2011, so has to show what he is capable of whilst on his current loan spell.
This strike might help, but at the end of the day it was Pasalic who had the last word, as his team won the game 3-2.
