Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma has been speaking about his initial experiences as a Blues player.
The French defender signed for Jose Mourinho’s side back in January, for a reported £12million; however he remained at St Etienne on loan for the rest of the season.
The 19-year-old has since moved to Stamford Bridge and is now a regular part of Chelsea’s match-day squad. But in an interview with Foot Express, the centre-back revealed he approached his time in London with trepidation.
“I discovered Chelsea with a child’s eyes,” Zouma said. “I arrived with some trepidation at first. I thought to myself, ‘How is it going to happen?’ there in England; it was all new to me.
“But it was mostly very exciting. I was eager to discover this universe, what happened at this club.
“We have a quality group, we have a big team. I’m happy.”
That will be music to the ears of Chelsea fans who believe Zouma will ultimately step into the considerable shoes of current star John Terry.
Along with Tomas Kalas, Zouma is being tipped to form the Chelsea defence of the future, and when you consider his talent and experience despite his young age, that is no surprise.
For now he will have to be patient for chances, but it appears the understandable fear he felt when he first moved from France to England has been replaced by a confidence that can only be a good thing for both the player and his current club.
